Acworth Officer Uses Life-Saving Device to Aid Choking Victim
On Tuesday, June 4, 2025, at approximately 10:29 a.m., Acworth Police Officers were dispatched to a medical emergency in the area of New McEver Road and Acworth Industrial Drive. The caller, later identified as Steven Williams, reported that he was choking on a water bottle cap. The individual was driving at the time but was able to pull over and immediately dial 911 for assistance.
Corporal Severtson was the first officer to arrive on scene. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, she quickly deployed her department issued LifeVac device. Thanks to her quick response and effective use of the device, the obstructed item was successfully removed from the victim’s airway.
The individual was evaluated on scene and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Acworth Police Department commends Corporal Severtson for her quick actions, which directly contributed to saving a life. This incident highlights the value of equipping officers with life-saving tools and the importance of continued training in emergency response.
In 2024, the Acworth Police Department purchased LifeVac devices for every officer. This marks the second successful deployment of the device in the City of Acworth, both of which were carried out by Corporal Severtson. The LifeVac Device is a portable airway clearance device designed to help remove an object when a person is choking. It uses a one-way valve system that creates suction to dislodge the obstruction without pushing it further into the airway. The device has been credited with saving hundreds of lives throughout the United States. For more information about LifeVac USA , you can visit their website at www.livevac.net.
